Nikolay Andreyevich Rimsky-Korsakov Biography

Nikolay Andreyevich Rimsky-Korsakov was born on March 18, 1844 in a town called Tikhvin. In 1856 Rimsky-Korsakov was put in the Naval Academy in St. Petersburg, although he still played the piano. In 1861, Rimsky-Korsakov became an associative of Mily Balakiriev. He eventually became part of the 5. The 5 were Borodin, Mussorgsky, Balakirev, and Cui. Rimsky-Korsakov then retired from the active navy, and became inspecter of naval bands. This helped him out amazingly when he orchestrated the Russian Symphony concerts in St. Petersburg. Rimsky-Korsakov finished off Borodin’s Prince Igor in 1889, and orchestrated Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov in 1896, after both famous composers had died. Rimsky-Korsakov’s most famous works include Snegurochka in1882, which translates to snow maiden, The golden Cockeral, 1909, and the Russian Easter Overture, 1888. Rimsky-Korsakov died in June 21, 1908, in St. Petersburg.
